How to use PaulA ---------------- (We assume that you have successfully configured and installed everything.) 1. Start the cimom (for details of cimom configuration, read the cimom manpage): $ cd bin/ $ ./cimom -f ../etc/cimserver.xml start && echo success If you get the output "success", everything worked. In any case, you should do a $ tail -f /tmp/cimom/logs/error_log in another window to get valuable informations about cimom problems or activities. 2. "Talk" with the cimom This takes place in the usual Client/Server manner: You make a request and then you get a response. The testclient.pl script in the bin/ directory enables you to make CIM requests. It is used in the following way: - Choose a "[IntrinsicMethod].pm" file (say GetClass.pm) - Run the test client with this file as an argument: $ ./testclient.pl GetClass.pm If that worked, you see a menu now. Try some menu entries and look at the responses. Type -d to exit. If you test Intrinsic Methods which involve providers, it is *extremly* interesting to watch how the "system files" change. Example: $ ./testclient.pl SetProperty.pm In another window, chdir to t/system/ and then do a $ watch cat passwd Now when you perform requests like (12) SetProperty PaulA_User.Login=hsimpson, LoginShell => 'perl' with the testclient, you will see, how the "hsimpson:..." line in the passwd file changes. Another example: The request (22) SetProperty PaulA_System, MouseDevice => '/dev/mouse' changes the "Device" entry in XF86Config. Try to find out which of the remaining requests change which file(s)...
